H. E. Marvin Rauf: An Advocate for Advancing Education Across the Asian and African Continents
Marvin Rauf was born in England to Jamaican and Kashmiri parents. He benefited from a diverse and multicultural upbringing, growing up understanding different perspectives, morals, and values.
Through his schooling, a young Marvin realised how important good education is in the lives of children. It offers kids the freedom to explore creative forms of expression and fulfil their potential.
“It is even more important for children in less fortunate families,” Marvin said. “I believe it is an essential tool to help them escape the cycle of deprivation they are in.“
Some time in 2012, Marvin saw the BBC’s charity, Children in Need. There was a significant lack of access to water, sanitation, and hygiene. He witnessed how much this impacted the lives of the poor and vulnerable communities, especially the children. This inspired him to do something about it.
“My two friends and I decided to visit Gambia,” Marvin recalled. “We invested our own money into water and sanitation projects in several rural villages.“
However, this was not the only thing that bothered Marvin. He saw that there was a clear need for education in the hardest to reach areas of the communities. With the combination of his life experiences and own educational background on societal challenges, it is no wonder that Marvin was driven to help those in need.
“I believe that education can improve the health and wellbeing of the less fortunate,” Marvin stated. “It is also an important aspect in reducing poverty and malnutrition while driving economic growth.“
Through his business acumen, Marvin is dedicated to inspire leaders and businesspeople alike to prioritise in assisting countries with developing their projects on improving education.
“When I think of hope, change, and progress, I think of education.“
Marvin Rauf is determined to carry-out the philanthropic aims instilled in him by his parents, to maintain his role as a role model and leader in advancing education to communities across the Asian and African continent.
Even in his leisure time, Marvin is still thinking about his advocacies. His hobbies lean toward music production, sound engineering, and DJing.
“As an avid music enthusiast, I understand the power and message music has,” Marvin said. “It is influential in bringing people of all cultures and backgrounds together.“
In 2021, Marvin Rauf was appointed Ambassador at Large for the International Institution for the Use of Microalgae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) by Security General H. E. Remigio Maradona. The organisation was granted status as an intergovernmental observer by the United Nations’ economic and social council. They work in cooperation with the United Nations in scientific research and humanitarian use of microalgae spirulina as food.
